CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Sonia Bean, real name unknown.
AGE: At least 130+, appears 12 - 13ish due to her being a magical girl and never physically aging throughout her years of life.
CANON: Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku:Limited

CANON HISTORY: WIKI / NOVEL TRANSLATION
The Mahoiku wiki is not only lacking information but can be inaccurate based off of poor mainstream fantranslation of the series, so I'll be explaining the most important tidbits of Sonia's backstory myself. All of this is taken directly from the arc she appears in, Limited.

The earliest known details of Sonia's life before being transformed into a magical girl are that she was originally a human orphan who lived alone in a cave far off in the secluded mountains. There are no mentions of how she became orphaned or how long she'd been living alone up there, but we do know that she survived through means of banditry. Sonia would lie in wait for lone travelers to pass through the area so that she could attack, loot from, and kill them to maintain her livelihood. This continued on for an unknown amount of time until Sonia met who would become her partner, an aristocratic and well-accomplished magical girl by the name of Pukin. Pukin, who had been in the middle of a journey, took mercy on Sonia's poor existence and took her in as a follower. In Chapter 3 of Limited - it is described by Pity Frederica that Sonia was Pukin's "exception," and that if she hadn't decided to save her, Sonia would have forever lived as a mountain bandit until the day she died. The two became very quickly bonded to the point of being inseparable.

The specifics of Pukin and Sonia's long history together leaves much to be desired, so what we are aware of is: some time after being rescued by Pukin, Sonia was transformed from a regular human into a magical girl by unknown means. Whether Sonia was transformed by chance or if Pukin had her specifically transformed is all up in the air. Through her transformation Sonia gained tremendously powerful magic and strength that was even stronger than Pukin's own. Pukin, a tyrant in the works, realized what Sonia's magic could do to for her own personal agenda and went mad with their combined power to finally pursue her dreams of... becoming a serial killer, because of various reasons I won't go into (TLDR she's insane). Sonia, who was naive and had become blindly loyal to Pukin since the very moment Pukin took her in, happily and without question aided Pukin in what would become a massive killing spree to go down in history as one the worst crimes in the Land of Magic. With her magic to disintegrate any and all things, Sonia got rid of the evidence of their crimes and killed anyone that Pukin wanted her to.

Their reign of terror began in the British Isles and carried on for years. By the time the duo had been tracked down and caught by authorities, they had killed over a thousand people together, as well as left many horribly tortured and falsely imprisoned. They had been discovered because of the traces of ash Sonia's magic left behind, and were appropriately arrested and sealed away from both each other and the world in a magical prison for what should have been all eternity as punishment for their blasphemies against humanity.

It's then that their story in Limited begins. Pukin and Sonia are broken out of prison after nearly 200 years by Pity Frederica, who seeks to use their massive power to her own advantage. Pity asks Pukin to aid her in her mission to find the assassin of B-City along with Tot Pop's militia, and Pukin agrees. Pity then asks Pukin if Sonia should also be released, to which Pukin responds that no permission is needed and that Sonia should be freed right away, as she is essential to Pukin and she refuses to be without her. The scene fades to black soon after, and then Sonia is released from her cell and reunited with Pukin to join the cause by her side. They enter B-City and begin their search for the assassin.

Through exposition, we are made aware of Pukin and Sonia's circumstances while in prison. They had occasionally been released from prison under supervision to do "dirty work" for the Land of Magic (the Land of Magic is extremely shady but that's another story for another day) — although under very secure conditions to ensure there were no attempts to retaliate or try to escape. The Land of Magic had several ways of going about these tactics, from drugging them with magic toxins to strapping timer bombs to their bodies. The most significant of these methods was that between Pukin and Sonia, one of them would be held hostage, and the other one sent out to complete their designated mission. The Land of Magic, aware of their strong loyalty to each other, took advantage of the fact that Pukin and Sonia would never betray or leave one another to ensure total cooperation.

The rest of Chapter 3 is mostly calm before the storm shenanigans, with Pukin and Sonia immediately stuffing their faces with food upon their freedom, as they are old type magical girls who require food to function (they will literally freeze up and be unable to move if they don't have a constant intake of energy). Pukin talks to Tot Pop about how Sonia is innocent and should not have been imprisoned alongside her for crimes it was Pukin's idea to commit in the first place. They kill a man and steal his car, which ends up with Pukin screaming at Sonia for trying to steal said dead man's clothes. Those lovabale scamps! Anyways, the chapter ends with Pukin and Sonia scarfing down even more food in a sushi restaurant, taking pictures with strangers who think they're cosplayers.

In Chapter 7, after having been away for a few chapters, the escaped prisoner team shows down with a few of the hero magical girls. In the midst of battle, Pukin tells Sonia to chase after a magical girl by the name of Captain Grace. Sonia does so, and they engage each other for a while, with Captain Grace at one point coming to believe she had defeated Sonia by dropping a gigantic pirate ship on top of her. Unaware of Sonia's magic, however, Sonia disintegrates Grace's pirate ship and emerges perfectly unharmed. Grace, caught off guard, tries to fight back as Sonia corners her. With a smile, Sonia gently caresses the side of Grace's face and turns her skull to ash, killing her. The prisoners then deduce that Captain Grace was not the assassin they were looking for, and Sonia faces no repercussions for the murder of Captain Grace. Gekokujou Hana, Funny Trick, and Wedin are kidnapped by them, and the story presses onward.

Which brings us to Chapter 9. The prisoners come face to face with a woman called Maou Pam, who is considered to be the strongest magical girl in modern existence. Pukin is immediately threatened by her presence, and for the first time since her release from prison, seems to actually be taking things seriously. Pam and Pukin speak to one another and sparks fly between them, with Pam insulting Pukin several times. As Pukin lunges to attack Pam, Sonia reaches out from behind Pukin and grabs her arm to stop her. Coaxing Pukin behind her, Sonia takes a step forward instead in Pukin's place and presents herself to Maou Pam. Angered by the disrespect shown to Pukin, Sonia challenges Pam to a 1V1 battle. Pam, a battle junkie through and through, is delighted by Sonia's brave proposition to challenge her directly. Pukin, absolutely confident in Sonia's abilities, whispers to Pity and Tot Pop to fall back. She tells them that when Sonia gets serious she loses herself in the heat of battle and can no longer tell friend from foe. As to not get turned into ash, the prisoners put their faith in Sonia to handle Pam and head for cover. Pam and Sonia exchange names, and the two rush at each other.

Sonia holds up incredibly well against Maou Pam, but she inevitably falls. Even Pam was at a loss of how to handle Sonia for the first crucial minutes of their fight until she came to realize Sonia's one and only weakness — even she needed to breathe. Though magical girls have better tolerance to it than humans, if deprived of oxygen, they will naturally die. After having tried to burn Sonia, shatter her eardrums with destructive sound, blind her with a superbeam, blow extremely strong gusts of wind at her, poison her with gas, freeze her, and even squash her with a steam press... this is the conclusion Pam comes to, and it works. Pam digs a hole in the ground and lures Sonia down into the hole with her. She blocks Sonia's line of sight with a thin black membrane wall made up of her wings, no longer trying to directly attack her but instead distract and confuse her, and then sets fire to the hole. Pam takes advantage of Sonia's unshakable focus as the flames turn to a blazing inferno while keeping herself protected with spare oxygen she'd stored in her wings. Pam stays behind her synthetic wall and lures Sonia all around the hole as it becomes hotter and hotter, getting Sonia to center in not on the fact that her oxygen was being deprived but instead trying to catch Maou Pam. She essentially plays with Sonia, always staying just a tad bit out of her reach. By the time Sonia realized she was unable to breathe, it was too late.

Sonia pants in misery, her face hot and red. She tries to scream, but there's so much smoke in her lungs that her voice is hoarse and she's unable to vocalize. There was nowhere to go for her. Pam finally lowers her shield to reveal herself. Sonia, who had before been smiling at Pam so gleefully in the midst of their early battle, glares at Pam with pure hatred in her eyes. Sonia crouches to the ground... however, this was not because she had given up, but because Sonia was exerting the final bits of her strength to charge Pam. On the verge of death and thoroughly delirious, she runs towards Pam and hugs her arms around her body. Or what Sonia was led to believe was her body. In actuality, the body was a fake made up of Pam's wings, a decoy that Sonia couldn't distinguish from the real one in her hazy state. Sonia, out of energy and time, dies and burns up until not even her ashes remain.

It is later revealed through Pity Frederica's POV that Pity plotted Sonia's death at the hands of Maou Pam and allowed her to die, having only humored Pukin's pleas to save her. Pity lied to Pukin, saying that they would step in to save Sonia if she was in serious trouble, but purposely delayed the intervention to let Pam kill her. It was Pity's intention to allow Sonia to martyr herself in the name of eliminating Maou Pam to get her out of the way, as Pam was the strongest opponent inside of B-City's barrier.

CANON PERSONALITY:
For someone's who description is "serial killer of at least a thousand" and "based off cannibal legend Sawney Bean," Sonia is a very innocent person. She's innocent in all respects; she's naive and quite shy to the point she can't look people in the eye and mumbles when she speaks to them, she's not very intelligent or knowledgeable in most things, and is very simplistic in both heart and mind. She cries when she's yelled at or is lonely or scared, likes hugs to comfort her in times of sadness, and wears her little heart on her sleeve with no effort or mind to even think of concealing her emotions. Her greatest happiness is to eat good food and stay contently by Pukin's side.

So you may ask, how exactly does a girl like that even end up with a terrible woman like Pukin, and how is she capable of committing as many tremendous atrocities as she has with absolutely no conscience whatsoever?

The answer is that it's precisely because of her innocent naivety. To make one thing clear, Sonia is not malicious, and is not one to do anything particularly out of animosity on her own. When she had been living in her mountain cave, she attacked passing travelers only to survive. Once she's taken in by Pukin and transformed, she happily kills by Pukin's side because Pukin tells her that it's for the greater good and that they're eliminating only bad people. Villains, criminals, those who would lie to Pukin, those who would deceive Pukin, Pukin's enemies, people who disrespected or disobeyed Pukin: they were bad people, and she and Pukin were the good people. Pukin told her so! Sonia, entirely enamored with Pukin, believed in her words with wholehearted sincerity. What reason could there be for not believing in Pukin? Pukin saved her, Pukin was beautiful and magnificent and a righteous magical girl who acted in the name of justice. She bore witness to it herself! Having never known a single good thing or even any other person before Pukin came into her life, Sonia simply went along with Pukin's every will and word without question. She knew no better. This is largely attributed to the fact that when she was taken in by Pukin, she'd had no socialization or knowledge of the real world, and learned everything she knows directly from Pukin. Pukin made herself the center of Sonia's world, instilling her own way of thought in Sonia's mind, and Sonia never stood a single chance to think any other way with Pukin's egotistical personality and wicked influence.

Even when Sonia is shown smiling while killing people or having fun toying with Maou Pam during their Chapter 9 battle, it's far less a matter of being sadistic and more of a "I want to have fun" sort of situation. Maou Pam even describes Sonia as a child with a toy when they fought one another. If you were to ask Sonia if she was aware that she was a villain, her answer would 100% be no. One of her official dislikes in the Mahoiku fanbook is quite literally "evildoers." Everything she does is strangely pure-hearted.

There are little concerns Sonia has that don't involve Pukin. It's no exaggeration that Pukin is the only person she truly cares for. Her sincere love and extreme loyalty is particularly exemplified by the fact that Sonia could kill Pukin easily at any second with her magic, but it is never an issue between them because of the amount of trust they share. If it wasn't already apparent enough from her fanatical adoration of Pukin, she is greatly attached to and dependent on her. The feeling is completely mutual on Pukin's end, creating a vicious co-dependency that is both their strength and weakness. Sonia is the only person Pukin sees as an equal to her and they have been happily by each other's sides for at least multiple decades, but they cannot seriously be away from each other without falling apart in some way. During their prisonbreak, Pukin tells Pity Frederica that Sonia is a crybaby who fears loneliness, and that she was likely squalling away while they spoke. This is absolutely true. In the sidestory Twin Daikaiju - Showdown in Dreamland, Sonia gets separated from Pukin. The whole time she frantically cries, wails, draws pictures of Pukin in the dirt and cries more because she misses her. It's definitely not a healthy relationship to an outsider looking in with all things considered, but it suits them just fine. So long as Sonia is with Pukin, then she's happy. To always follow rather than lead doesn't bother her in the slightest fashion.

All of that being said, Sonia isn't completely without her own will or wholly mindless. There are several instances in which she directly disobeys Pukin, or acts of her own accord instead of listening to Pukin's wishes. Having maintained her old habits of banditry from when she lived in a cave, Sonia still has the tendency of spontaneously looting from people... and corpses, which stems from her liking of pretty and expensive items since she was deprived of such things while she was homeless. She has a fear of poverty and starvation for similar reasons. She still eats like an animal despite having lived with an aristocrat as her partner for many years and has no sense of table manners in spite of Pukin's own proper etiquette. Sonia will sometimes take it upon herself to step in front of Pukin as means of protecting her, or fighting in her place when she thinks it necessary. Though she is not aggressive on her own, she can and will turn fierce if Pukin is threatened. She is very protective of the one she holds dear. She can also be possessive of Pukin, as she gets jealous when Pukin brainwashes another magical girl by the name of Wedin to fall in love with her and shows quite risqué affection to Wedin right in front of her. Sonia stares said homewrecker down in anger. Though she isn't the type to voice when something like this bothers her or even protest if Pukin shuts her down, it doesn't mean that she's incapable of feeling these things. Sonia does have a mind of her own.

Interestingly enough, though Sonia is stated to be afraid of most things, she is actually very confident in herself and her own powers and strength. She shows absolutely no signs whatsoever of even being a tiny bit scared when engaged in dangerous battle, effortlessly combating everything with a huge smile. Once she dedicates to a fight she really dedicates, to the point where she goes berserk and will attack anyone in sight no matter if she's allied with them because of how focused she can become. She's also capable of being somewhat independent if she's acting away from Pukin on her orders, such as being able to efficiently collect documents and information or "act" with Pukin during cases, like sneezing on cue as a distraction. Even though she may not be typically smart she has enough comprehension skill to carry out tasks like these.

Despite being a shy and nervous crybaby, once she feels comfortable, she'll actually open up and be far cheerier in social situations, if not a bit bratty. Used to being spoiled by Pukin and very boastful about her partner's status, she'll brag of Pukin's excellence and stomp her feet and cry if anyone disagrees. That being said, she doesn't share Pukin's quick temper, so Sonia won't go off killing anyone who frustrates her. She's perfectly capable of being relatively normal(-ish) and friendly with people should they break through her initial shyness. One usually only needs to worry about Sonia if Pukin is concerned... and Pukin is very often concerned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
▸ MAGICAL SKILL: As a magical girl, Sonia has a power called a "magical skill" which is magic exclusive only to her. Her specific magic is the ability to disintegrate any object she touches with her hand into black ash that is visible to the eye. This power is not limited to only physical things, as she is shown to be able to disintegrate elemental magic like fire and wind. Her power only ever activates when she wants it to, meaning that she can turn it on and off to be able to touch other people normally.
▸ SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH: Rated 5/5 hearts on her official stats. She may look tiny but she can likely pick you up and toss you around like a little ragdoll if she wants to.
▸ SUPERHUMAN DURABILITY: Rated 5/5 hearts on her official stats. Sonia is practically untouchable due to her magic, and can endure almost any attack. It's her durability that makes her even stronger than Pukin.
▸ SUPERHUMAN AGILITY: Rated 4/5 hearts on her official stats.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Sonia Cleek
AU AGE: 21
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: She appears to be physically older than she was before, but is still petite and looks a bit young for her age. Her cream-colored eyes are now a brown color, but she retains her light blonde hair. Also this is kinda weird but still notable: magical girls in the Mahoiku canon are flawless beings with beauty unheard of — their features are perfectly aligned on their face, their skin radiant and spotless, no moles or blemishes anywhere on their bodies, etc. Just looking at them gives the impression that they are too beautiful to be human. In the General Pukin's Case Files sidestory, Fatol is literally speechless in the wake of Sonia's appearance, saying that she looks as if she was not naturally formed and that her beauty was artificially made. Not to say Sonia will lose her cute looks, but she'll be sensibly and normally flawed in some areas like normal humans.

AU HISTORY:
▸ Sonia Cleek was born in England to her mother and father, an older couple who were happily married for about ten years prior to her birth. They lived in England for a few years of Sonia's childhood with her as their only child, struggling a bit with money but hardworkers and a happy family nonetheless. When Sonia was about five or six years old, her mother through some means received a great job opportunity in Recollé that would pay far more than her current job in England. Thus, the family relocated to the city and have lived a perfectly stable life ever since.
▸ Sonia remained an only child. She was doted on by her loving parents and they always ensured that she got the best of what they could provide her, even if it wasn't the most expensive. Her home was always a very safe environment and she never felt unwanted or uncared for.
▸ She struggled a bit once she entered into elementary school and the adults around her realized that she was having trouble learning at the same pace as the other children. However, with the dilligent care of her family and her teachers, Sonia was set on a path that better suited her needs and continued on like that throughout her school years. She got fairly average grades in her classes.
▸ Always naturally being quiet and shy, Sonia didn't have a particularly big group of friends growing up but also didn't really struggle exactly with making friends. Having grown up very humbly, Sonia was kind and gentle with everyone who talked to her, but never actually approached anyone first to become friends. She never had any notable bad experiences as a child or a teenager.
▸ She pretty much stopped growing once she reached high school so she's doomed to look young forever, and even then she looked pretty small for her age. It doesn't particularly bother her though, she's long since gotten used to being mistaken for a kid.
▸ As she grew older and got to the age where she started needing to think of careers and the like, she was never really sure what she wanted to grow up to be. She wasn't particularly super passionate about anything aside from food, and even then it's not like she wanted to cook it really... she just liked to eat it! This was a bit of source of anxiety for Sonia, and she fiddled with the idea of a few different jobs while trying to figure things out for herself. A veterinarian? She liked animals, but she couldn't stand the sight of them hurt or the sight of blood, for that matter. In the end, she just couldn't decide. After graduating from high school she decides to attend Recollé University with an undeclared major. She's currently taking a few elective classes to try to see what speaks to her. She's still pretty stressed that she can't seem to find anything that lights a spark in her, though...
▸ Though she's moved away from her parent's home around 19, she makes sure to check in on them and visit often since they are of old age (late 50's - early 60's) and she worries about them and their health.
▸ She loves to thrift and gets most of her clothes from various thrift stores. She also collects antique items from stores. A bit reminiscent of her past life's habit of hoarding pretty things except she actually pays for them this time around.

AU PERSONALITY:
▸ All of the changes to Sonia's personality in Recollé are influenced by the fact that Pukin is no longer in her life. This, by default, makes Sonia Cleek far different than Sonia Bean, considering how much of Bean's entire existence completely revolved around Pukin. Of the most important of these changes, she'll clearly be far more independent than she was originally and be able to form healthy relationships with other people, no longer under Pukin's influence or being held back by her blind love. Sonia still prefers to let others take the lead for her, never having been very assertive and finding it easier in terms of her shyness. She was probably that kid in group projects who just kinda sat back and was afraid to contribute her own ideas and stood there awkwardly when it came to presentations but I mean... it's not that bad anymore. She's also no longer naive and will not fall for anything shady anyone tells her so easily.
▸ With Pukin absent from Sonia's life, there is nothing in this life that Sonia is extremely passionate about like she was with Pukin. A part of her feels as if she's always been looking for something to strongly love, perhaps a remnant of her past life that still resides inside her searching for that missing piece.
▸ She is still quite shy, but not as severely. She's also better at communication since she grew up in a home with parents and not in a cave as an orphan for who knows how many years. A bit awkward but trying the best she can. She's slightly self-conscious of her quiet voice and her tendency to mumble sometimes, especially when she has to repeat herself, but her family and friends tell her that she's fine. It's still easy to startle her.
▸ Sonia now comprehends what morals are, and truly understands what the difference between good and bad is. Like any normal person, she's not okay with running around killing people... for any reason whatsoever.
▸ Related to the above, she's also very empathetic. She's always been very sensitive, even in canon, so in an environment where she wasn't raised to be desensitized to death... and murder... she has a bleeding heart and other people's pain deeply affects her.
▸ Her appetite isn't as exaggerated as it was before, but people who know her will joke that she has a bottomless pit for a stomach and that it's a wonder how her tiny body can hold as much food as it does. That being said, you will not catch her eating raw meat anymore.
▸ She definitely isn't as strong as she used to be. She never took up any activities to warrant her even having half of her original strength, so she's just a regular, physically unimpressive itty-bitty lady.
▸ Like her canon counterpart she is a bit of a crybaby. She's very emotional and tends to cry easily, mostly brought on by loads of empathy or when she's stressed or scared. Crying usually helps her to clear her head when she's panicking, and then can come out of it feeling better once she's done. It's very therapeutic.
▸ She no longer acts childishly for her age due to having been able to grow up properly as most people do. The only childish thing about her is her outward appearance and the way she dresses, still sporting frilly pink clothes and general aesthetic. She tends to wear her hair either down or in a single ponytail as opposed to her old twintails though.
▸ Even though she grew up as an only child, she defies the stereotype of being spoiled. She doesn't really have a bratty side to her, no matter how much she was doted on by her parents. She was always taught to be humble, unlike when she was with Pukin, who boasted of their collective superiority constantly.
▸ Faint of heart and can't stand the sight of blood or horror movies.

Sonia still doesn't really like to be alone despite being on the shyer side, and very much fiercely loves and is loyal to those who she cares for. She's a bit of a fragile person that needs to be poked a little until she opens up, and once that happens, you'll have a perfectly sweet and loving girl on your side. You know, the normal kind, not the kind who would happily kill all your enemies for you because you asked.
